Boutique Hotel - revitalization design proposal of the historic quarter in Płońsk
Project Location: Poland, Płońsk
Year: 2018
Awards: Honorable mention - Architectural student competion for the best revitalization design proposal of the historic quarter in Plonsk organized by Płońsk City Council
The concept of the hotel is a competition project that was created as part of the architecture design studio at the university. The student competition was organized by Płońsk City Council. Although Płońsk is a small town with just over 20,000 inhabitants, this place is well known to all Jews, because it is the birthplace of the father - founder of the Jewish state and the first prime minister of Israel - David Grün, known as David Ben Gurion. Until the second World War, more than half of the community living in Płońsk was made up of Jews who built and developed the city together with other ethnic groups. Unfortunately during the war most of the historical buildings including the synagogue were demolished. Currently the local authorities want to restore the former image of the city.
The main task of the competition was to design a new building in the place of a shopping pavilion, which is located next to the historically and architecturally valuable tenement house - the place where Dawid Ben Gurion lived. An additional, important element in the design proposal was a creation of a new urban interior and the presentation of the concept of linking two historically important places - the birthplace and temporary home of Ben Gurion, which are a huge cultural value of the city.
Two locations should become a coherent and attractive public space, which will have a positive impact on the image of the city.
